Agroforestry and Carbon Expert Fairventures Social Forestry wins the Sustainable Forest Economy Challenge from UpLink – World Economic Forum for its Showcase Project in Borneo (Indonesia)

Fairventures Social Forestry, a developer of scalable agroforestry-based climate solutions, is selected as a winner of the Sustainable Forest Economy Challenge from UpLink – World Economic Forum. This recognition was awarded for our work on the development of Fairventures Social Forestry’s 3,000 hectare showcase project in Central Kalimantan (Borneo, Indonesia).

Fairventures Social Forestry GmbH is selected as a winner of the Sustainable Forest Economy Challenge from UpLink – World Economic Forum, an initiative led by Manulife and supported by UpLink – World Economic Forum, 1t.org, American Forests, Built by Nature, EcoTree International, European Forest Institute and U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities. The participation in the challenge of ecopreneurial start-ups contributes to addressing pressing global challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss, promote social equality, and ensure the availability of sustainable and renewable resources. The start-ups that participated, offer innovative and scalable approaches to the sustainable management of forests, the production of various wood products, and the use of enabling technologies.

Fairventures Social Forestry offers investment opportunities in a scalable, agroforestry-based climate solution with social impact. The company works with local communities to establish agroforestry plantations on degraded land that provide secure jobs and profit sharing for the local communities. Its nature-based solution provides high-value carbon credits that are sequestered through reforestation and conservation of high-value forests. In addition to carbon credits, the company focuses on the distribution of sustainable timber and organic food from its agroforestry plantations, thereby creating secure jobs and long-term sustainable income opportunities for local communities and positive impacts on biodiversity.

The challenge’s award includes technical and networking support, the chance to receive up to USD 150,000 in funding, and a year of support to help you make the most of your UpLink Innovation Network membership. This support comes in the form of visibility on the Forum’s and UpLink’s digital media channels, access to exclusive events hosted by the Forum and its partners, introductions to the Forum’s and UpLink’s partner, expert and investor networks, capacity and community building programmes and events, and more.

We look forward to working with the other winners, joining a great community of innovators, and scaling our impact together. We are very proud of our team and very motivated to increase our impact on the climate and society in the coming years.
